Two more Trophies for Willunga 100 Shiraz Viognier
26th October, 2012
Following on from its Trophy success at the 2012 Boutique Wine Awards, the Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Shiraz Viognier 2010 has scooped two more Trophies at top Australian wine shows.
At the prestigious Royal Melbourne Wine Show, whose judges this year included Jamie Goode and James Suckling, the wine was awarded the Trophy for Best Rhône Varietal Blend – one of only seven dry red wines from the 2010/2011 vintages to receive a Trophy out of 1,194 entries. As a Trophy winner, the Shiraz Viognier was eligible for the hotly contested Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy – the second consecutive year that a Willunga 100 wine has been a finalist for this coveted award, following in the footsteps of their McLaren Vale Grenache 2010 at the 2011 Show.
The Shiraz Viognier has also been named the Best McLaren Vale Shiraz Predominant Blend at the 2012 McLaren Vale Wine Show.
Willunga 100’s winemakers Tim James and Kate Day say: “This is a fantastic result and confirms our belief in the quality and style of the wines we are producing from McLaren Vale.
“Our focus and passion is on making wines with a combination of fresh aromatics, good structure and vibrant fruit, which are both critically and commercially successful and represent excellent quality and value.”
