One of the most exciting estates to have emerged from Italy in recent years, Poggio al Tesoro is a 70 hectare property in Bolgheri acquired in 2002 by the Allegrini family. The first vineyard they bought, Le Sondraia, is next door to Ornellaia and was previously rented by them. It is 12 hectares in size and is planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon.

There are two wines which have inspired me: Ornellaia from Tenuta dell'Ornellaia and Sauvignon St Valentine from Cantina Produttori di San Michele Appiano. Both demonstrate great class and elegance, with structure and weight without being too heavy or overbearing. One of the elements I love about these wines is their consistency over time. The character of the vintage is always apparent, but doesn't affect the quality of the wines which is always extremely high. Nicola Biasi.
