Charles Heidsieck

Charles Heidsieck is one of the most admired Champagne houses thanks to the...

unrivalled and consistently high quality of its wines. Founded in 1851 by the man who would become known as ‘Champagne Charlie’, this family-owned house is the smallest of the Grandes Marques. Their size, and commitment to excellence, has been underpinned by a winemaking team that between them have been named 'Sparkling Winemaker of the Year' at the International Wine Challenge fifteen times.

Vineyards

For the 2000 Brut Millésimé Charles Heidsieck selected grapes from vineyard sites across the region, notably Ambonnay, Verzy and Verzanay for the Pinot Noir, and Oger and Sézanne for the Chardonnay.

Vintage Information

2000 was a 'belle année' for Champagne. There was some hail damage in June and July, but August was warm and there was sunshine throughout harvest. The quality of grapes harvested in September was excellent, giving wines of body, length and generosity.

Vinification

After the first fermentation, the wine was racked to separate the lees and then undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften the natural acidity. After blending the two varietals, the cuvée is bottled and yeast added to begin the second fermentation. The bottles are placed in the cellar at a temperature of about 10°C and the wine is aged for at least 10 years before release.

Tasting Notes

Elegant gold colour, with persistent, fine bubbles. A complex concentration of minerals and grasses give way to Mediterranean fruits, apricot, dates and perfumed acacia honey. The elegant, generous palate has balanced acidity with crisp peach and sweet honey flavours. Infinite length, and majestic structure.
