Shaw + Smith lift Francois De Castella Trophy at Royal Melbourne Wine Awards
Congratulations to Shaw + Smith, who took home the prestigious Francois De Castella Trophy for Best Young White Wine for their ‘M3’ Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2018 at this year’s Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.
One of Australia’s benchmark Chardonnays, the ‘M3’ also scooped a Consistency of Excellence medal for winning Gold medals for three consecutive vintages.
The judges commented on the ‘M3’ 2018’s “amazingly complex nose with citrus spice and plenty of complexity. Some smokiness shows through with a nice creamy mid palate and succulent core. Very concentrated and overall a very tight package with a long finish.”
Winemaker Adam Wadewitz (pictured) said: “There has never been a more exciting time for Adelaide Hills Chardonnay from my perspective. It’s so suited to our area and it’s just great to have a heap of people understanding their sites and getting the best from them.”
Remarkably, the same winemaking team won the Francois De Castella Trophy last year for their Tolpuddle Vineyard Tasmania Chardonnay 2017.
The Shaw + Smith ‘M3’ Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2018 will be available in early 2020.
